+What is Acadam?

Acadam is a meeting place for students and tutors. Acadam provides a matching service and a platform to handle all monetary transactions between tutors and students.

+How do I become a tutor?

You can click on the link « Become a tutor » at the top right of the page or simply click here if you want to register as a tutor.

+Do I need to pay to become a tutor?

No, it's free to create a tutor account on Acadam
Acadam takes a small commission on the revenue you generate with clients referred to you by Acadam.

+How to improve the ranking of my profile in search results?

To improve your position in search results and increase your chances of getting more clients, we encourage you to complete all sections of your profile in your dashboard.

+How do I find clients?

To find clients, you can visit the Tutor Requests tab and click on Find a student. We encourage you to apply to requests by giving a price and describing why you are the perfect candidate for this client. Be explicit in your message, since the client must often choose between several candidates. There are two types of requests:



  • Private requests
    Private requests are sent to you personally by clients that found your profile while searching our site. This means that a client is interested in your services. It is therefore very important to reply promptly. In the list of requests, private requests will appear at the top of the list and will have an icon "invitation".


  • Public requests
    Public requests are available for all tutors. There is a maximum of 10 applications by request. The competition is fierce for these requests so we encourage you to have a complete profile and write a message that explains why the client should choose you over someone else.


+How much money do I make as a Acadam tutor?

When you start as a new tutor, you will earn 65% of the tutoring revenues you charge your clients. The remaining portion will be used by Acadam to cover its operating expenses and marketing. The more you bill your clients, the higher will be your pay percentage, as detailed below.

+How much should I charge my clients?

It's your choice! You should consider the following when determining your tutoring rate:

  • » Your experience
  • » The location of the client
  • » The duration of the sessions
  • » The market price
  • » Your pay percentage

+How do I prepare for a tutoring session?

You are responsible for the quality of your services. Here are some suggestions to ensure you are ready for your sessions:

  • Clear out the client's expectations and needs and to make sure are the right tutor.
  • Obtain a copy of the textbook or course syllabus needed for your tutoring sessions.
  • Plan your next tutoring sessions with the client.

+How do I know when my client has submitted their payment information to Acadam?

  • There are two ways to know if the client has a payment information on file with Acadam.First, in the description of the request, there is a field "Payment information" – On file or Not on file. This field will also be available in the My Students.

  • Once the client has submitted their payment information, you can contact him and bill your tutoring hours.

+I'm about to start offering my tutoring services to a new client. What should I do with Acadam?

Before beginning tutoring sessions with a client, you must ensure that their payment information are on file with Acadam. You should not have to explain the payment process for clients as we explain them on the site. When the client's payment information are on file with Acadam, you can contact the client directly to schedule your meeting, the duration, the location, etc.. Make sure to enter your sessions in the Acadam system after each one so that we can charge the client and pay you.

+What should I do after I met my client? How do I charge and when will I receive my money?

Payments are made on the 1st and 15th of each month and include sessions charged five days before the payment date. For example, for the payment of 15th, all sessions billed until the 10th will be included in the payment.

Two options are available to receive your money:

  • Payment by check: this is the default option, you must ensure that the mailing address of your account is correct. Please allow up to 5 days to receive your check.
  • Direct payment by PayPal: This is the fastest option and most effective. To add your PayPal account to your Acadam account, please visit the Account Settings tab and add your account in the Payment Method section. To create a free PayPal account, please visit www.paypal.com

+Should I be concerned that my client may have insufficient funds in his Acadam account?

You responsibility is to make sure that the has submitted their payment information to Acadam, but you do not have to worry if the transactions will go through or not. Acadam will resolve with the client if any billing issues occur.

+How do I add my Paypal account to receive my money?

Please go to the Account Settings and locate the section Payment Method. If you don’t already have a Paypal account, please visit www.paypal.com to create a free account

+How to provide online tutoring to a client?

Please see this video to offer your services online.

We also encourage you to inform clients on your profile that you offer your services online. To do so, visit the Tutoring Preferences page.

+How to encourage my clients to leave reviews on my profile?

The more positive reviews you receive from your clients, the better the chances you’ll be hired by new clients. To encourage clients to leave a review of your services, please visit the Reviews page and follow the steps. For each positive review, your ranking in the search results will improve.

+How can I send a message to one of my students?

To send a message to one of your students, visit the My students page and locate the Send a Message icon. You can then send an email to your client. Please note that if your client has not added his payment information to Acadam, this feature will not be activated.

+May I get paid directly from my students?

No, it is strictly forbidden to be paid directly from your students. All payments are processed by Acadam. We wil remove from the site anyone who doesn’t respect this policy.

+May I find students outside the Acadam network?

Of course! As an independant contractor, you can tutor anyone outside the Acadam network. However, you must use Acadam’s payment system for all clients refered to you by Acadam.

+What should I do during tax season?

All invoices sent using Acadam are accessible in the Invoice section. You are responsible for including all income in your tax report and you are doing so as an independant contractor. Acadam will not send any tax statement at the end of the financial year.

+I am no longer available to offer my services, how do I deactivate my account?

If you no longer want your profile to appear in search results, in the Account Settings page, use the “Disable” option under the section Change your account status.

+I don’t want to receive anymore emails for tutoring opportunities.

sIn the Account Settings page, under Email Preferences, please turn it to “NO”.

+How do I close my account?
