Description
Hey!
I am a recent Concordia University graduate (Bachelor of Arts, Major in History, Minor in Mandarin) who has taught pretty extensively over the past several years.
In 2011, I spent six months (February-August) living in Beijing as an Au Pair. My primary responsibilities were to teach the family I was living with English and Western Culture (literature/history/etc), as well as other Au Pair duties (such as taking care of the child, reading to him in English, etc). Also during this time I taught at the E-Blocks Learning Center, where I was in charge of teaching younger Chinese children English and about Western culture/history/etc (for six months total).
In the summer of 2012 I once again returned to Beijing, this time on an inter-university summer program. During this time, I also taught English and Western culture (history, literature, etc) freelance. I worked with E-Blocks Center several times teaching small children, but I also taught English to a senior man who needed it for his business for two months.
Finally, I spent the winter semester of 2013 (January-April) working at Concordia University as a TA for an entry level Chinese course. My duties here were to assign homework/quizzes and grade them, but also to teach the class two hours a week (unsupervised, the professor went home during my teaching periods). The class was fairly big, with about 25 students, and the ages ranged from nineteen year olds to seniors.
This constitutes the extent of my experience teaching. I am comfortable teaching English, Chinese, or anything in the social science spheres (History, Geography, English, etc) to all ages and to all group sizes (large or one on one). I do not have high salary expectations, but rather am in it for the love of teaching.
I come from an academic family (both of my parents, as well as several of my aunts and uncles are all professors) and I have been exposed to teaching all of my life. I really love to teach and I'm hoping some day to become a professor.
Hope to hear from you,
Dan R.
